Ingredients
For the Burger:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- ½ cup seasoned bread crumbs
- ¼ teaspoon celery seed
- ¼ teaspoon caraway
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ¼ cup Thousand Island Dressing
- 3 green onions, sliced (use the white part for the burgers)
To Dress the Burger:
- 4 hamburger buns
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 cup Frank’s Kraut (sauerkraut)
- Thousand Island Dressing, for serving
- Tops of the green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Burger Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, beaten egg, seasoned bread crumbs, celery seed, caraway, salt, pepper, Thousand Island dressing, and the white parts of the sliced green onions. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, then shape the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties.
- Cook the Burgers: Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the turkey patties until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C), about 5-7 minutes per side depending on thickness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and allow it to melt completely.
- Toast the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, spread butter on the inside of each hamburger bun. Place the buns on the grill or in a skillet until they turn golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cooked turkey patty with melted Swiss cheese on the toasted bottom buns. Top each with a generous mound of Frank’s Kraut, a spoonful of Thousand Island dressing, and sprinkle with the green tops of the sliced green onions. Cover with the top buns and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use fresh green onions for the best flavor contrast between the white bulb and green tops.
- Ensure the turkey burgers are cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F for food safety.
- Butter the buns just before grilling to achieve a crisp, golden texture without burning.
- You can substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère or another mild melting cheese if preferred.
- Adjust the seasoning and bread crumbs if you prefer a firmer or softer burger texture.
