Ingredients
Turkey Burger Mixture
- 1 pound ground turkey (85% lean, 15% fat)
- ¼ cup finely chopped Italian parsley
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons very finely diced red onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
- ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Olive oil for pan cooking
Buns and Toppings
- 4 burger buns of your choice (such as sesame or brioche)
- Tzatziki sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Crumbled feta cheese
- Tomato slices
- Cucumber slices
- Onion slices
- Lettuce leaves
Instructions
- Prepare Tzatziki Sauce: Make the tzatziki sauce according to your preferred recipe or use a store-bought version. This can be prepared 1-2 days in advance to enhance flavors and kept refrigerated. Set aside until assembly.
- Mix the Turkey Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, chopped parsley, dill, dried oregano, diced red onions, minced garlic, crumbled feta, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands just until evenly combined to avoid overmixing, which can cause dry, tough burgers.
- Form the Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ½-inch thick patty that is slightly larger than your buns by about ⅓ to ½ inch. Make a shallow indentation in the center of each patty to help prevent puffing up and shrinking during cooking.
- Cook the Burgers: Heat a couple of drizzles of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until fully cooked and browned. Avoid pressing down the patties with a spatula while cooking to keep them juicy.
- Assemble and Serve: Toast the burger buns if desired. Build your burgers starting with the bottom bun, then lettuce, turkey patty, a generous dollop of tzatziki, crumbled feta, tomato slices, cucumber slices, onion slices, more tzatziki, and finally, the top bun. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Do not overmix the turkey to keep the patties tender and juicy.
- The indentation in the center of each patty prevents the burger from puffing and helps maintain even cooking.
- Cooking times may vary slightly based on patty thickness and skillet heat—ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) for safety.
- These burgers freeze well; form patties and freeze uncooked on a parchment-lined tray, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Thaw before cooking.
- Homemade tzatziki sauce adds fresh flavor, but store-bought versions work well for convenience.
